Victor Sonic Spike

Safely send moles and gophers scurrying from your yard unharmed with this Victor Sonic Spike. When placed in the ground and activated, sonic pulses penetrate the soil, emitting a sound which is highly irritating to moles and gophers who are virtually blind and overly sensitive to sound and vibrations. Climate permitting, leave the sonic mole and gopher repellent in the ground to repel new generations of pests.

Removable Battery Sleeve

The mole and gopher sonic spike is designed with a convenient removable battery sleeve for trouble-free battery replacement. A Spike will work for 4 – 6 months on one set of alkaline batteries*. Spike must be used continuously for 7-14 days before moles and gophers start to move away from the area.

How to Use

Be sure to insert the Spike into the soil so that the cap is flush with the ground to avoid tripping hazards and the chance of hitting it with a lawnmower. Effectiveness depends largely upon soil type: dry, sandy or peat soil does not conduct the sonic waves easily. Moist clay is the best conductor of sound. To use, follow these steps:

  1. To open, unscrew YELLOW cap counter-clockwise.
  2. Remove battery cartridge and insert batteries. Re-insert the battery cartridge into the Spike. If installation is correct, you will hear vibrating sound within 15 seconds.
  3. Tighten the cap securely to keep moisture out.
  4. Make pilot holes prior to inserting the spikes. Do not hammer it into the ground, as this could cause damage.
  5. Insert Spike until the cap is flush with the ground. Above the ground, it could be a tripping hazard. Remember where the Spike is located so it may be removed for battery replacement.
  6. Remove Sonic Spike during flooding and before ground freezes.

We have a 1/2 acre and get moles. Have used similar spikes like these in the ground with success but needed to buy more so went with this brand.

The good: the Yellow caps are a great idea. Will make it MUCH easier to find in the green grass when batteries need to be replaced. The other brand I''ve bought and used over the years has green caps, so can be a real challenge to find in the grass. I''m sure my neighbors are amused when I''m out walking in circles with my head down.

The bad(although not too bad) this brand holds just 3 "D" batteries(other brand uses 4) so it might seem like a savings BUT having the two brands in my yard these tend to run out of power vs the 4 battery version. Easy to replace though and this brand has a handy pop up "ring" to pull the battery tube out of the holder that stays in the ground.

TIP! Any of these sonic devices will work their best when the ground is tight around them when you bury them. So they will work better in clay soil vs sandy or loose soil. Also, invest in a auger for a electric drill or a cordless one that has a 40amp battery to drill your hold in the ground. MUCH easier and saves a ton of time. You can get the drill here on Amazon like I did, but just be sure you buy one long enough to get entire mole chaser tube in the ground.

As far as do they work? YES...they work great for me. I''ve tried the solar powered versions as well but they don''t seem to send out a strong enough vibration to keep moles away nor do they stay charged enough to work 24/7 like these do. Plus, if you have shade in your yard they won''t charge up to full capacity anyway. Stick with battery powered ones.

UPDATE: One of the 4 quit working and thought it was batteries but isn''t Email to company asking for a replacement has gone unanswered so far........

After a week the new tunnels stopped appearing. These were quite loud, but after burying them properly I don''t hear them until I''m very close. Be sure to use top quality alkaline batteries so they don''t corrode, and make the hole large and deep enough. Initially I pushed on the device a bit too hard and it stopped working, but I pulled it back and made the hole deeper and it began working again. I purchased solar devices 2 years ago but they failed completely after about a year, and didn''t work when the weather was overcast. Would buy again but I doubt that I''ll need any more. Highly recommended!

We have had moles for the 18 yrs we have lived here. Our lot is between two wooded lots and the moles come in from either side. I have used the Victor scissors traps and have been quite successful. Each year I have killed between eight and 14 of the miserable pests. But they come back every year.
This year I put in the Victor Sonic Spikes. I used four of them to cover the lawn. Two in the large backyard and two in the front on each side of the driveway. About 8,000 sq ft. From May 1 to June 30 We have had no moles. NO MOLES. Usually this is the biggest activity time. What an amazing product.
I will see an occasional tunnel right on the edge of the lot but never into the lawn or shrubs.

I thought these might work because I heard that moles hate noise and I don''t get mole activity in the part of the yard where the chickens roam.

I installed four spikes. The next day there were a couple of new holes and the cats caught three moles. I thought that the noise was chasing the moles to the surface for my cats to kill. Then no activity for a few weeks. I thought my problem was solved. It was not. The weather changed and now there are mole holes just a few feet away from the spikes.

The only good thing about these is that the noise does not bother the chickens or the cats. The bad thing is that the noise doesn''t bother the moles enough for them to move out.

They don’t seem to cover nearly as large an area as claimed...maybe a 20’ radius, and maybe all these pesky little critters are moving just out of range into a big wad, but I seem to have as many or more tunnels as before. I purchased a two pack...one of the spikes emits its little buzz about every thirty seconds, but the other one buzzes constantly without ceasing. Doesn’t seem to make any difference in repelling the creatures though....it will just use the batteries up sooner. Maybe I should just get myself a pack of pet foxes, or a few black snakes

As you can see from the one picture, 2 days after burying this one spike he cozied up next to it. This is the 2nd spike I have used. There is no difference at all. In fact I think we had more tunnels added after the first spike.

The installation process wasn''t easy either. There is more to it than just poking a pilot hole. You need to actually dig quite deep if you want the top flush with the ground. These spikes should be designed with threads on them so they can be twisted into the ground.

I also noticed that it drastically decreased the number of frogs around my pool. Now I don''t have any that I have to scoop out of the pool in the morning. I did lay these things out on the ground around the pool perimeter. They are not noticeable and work great. The noise is almost undetectable by the human.

I can even hear it when I''m on my 2ns storey. The kids now prefer to play in the neighbor''s yard instead of mine because of this annoying sound. I can''t relax and garden with this annoying sound. If you have a field that you can leave it alone and never hear it, it would work for you. But if you will be hanging out in the area that it is to be used, don''t get this. You will not want to hang out in your space any longer.

So we have a front yard that has been plagued for the past few months by a mole that seemed to come and go as it pleased, leaving holes in the garden area, the mulched/path areas, or in the worst cases, on our lawn. Prior to this we have tried using other repellents, caster oils, etc. with little success. The spikes are very chonky. Just picture the D size batteries they use but in a long tube shape. Unless you have very loose soils you''re not going to be able to just push them in. Once the batteries are in, you''ll likely need to dig maybe halfway down, put the spike in and push down as far as it''ll go, then replace the soil to bury the spike. Once the batteries are in you''ll realize this is NOT a quiet device. It creates a fairly loud buzz every 30 seconds that you can hear even when buried, albeit more faintly. If you plan to use this in a yard where you''ll be relaxing quietly in the evening, you might need to rethink this. We also chose this over the solar powered options because we wanted something that worked consistently. Nothing worse than finding more holes just because of a stretch of rainy days. The caveat here is this: for the first week or two, the mole will absolutely hate you for doing this and (in our case anyway) it will completely trash the area around the spikes in an attempt to stop them. In other words, you will see MORE holes, especially around the spikes. If you plan to use these spikes in your garden, make sure to bury them in an area that you can restore easily (such as a bare plot) far away from your valuable plants. After a while, the holes will stop appearing and with any luck the little bugger will have decided to move on to terrorize someone else''s yard instead. It has been a few weeks since we last found a hole now and we''ll keep these buried until the batteries run out probably in a few months. All in all seems to be working as advertised, as long as you''re mindful of the caveats above.
